The Bee is as important to humanity as the Sun. Here are some interesting facts about our namesake.
The bee was an important symbol of royalty and power. It was part of the title of the Pharaoh, referred to as "He of the Sedge and the Bee" (representing Upper and Lower Egypt, respectively). This title symbolized the Pharaoh's control over the entire land of Egypt. item
Bees and honey held significant symbolic meaning in ancient Egyptian religion and mythology. The bee was associated with the sun god Ra and was considered a symbol of resurrection and immortality. Honey was often offered to the gods and used in religious ceremonies.
Honeybees can fly at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour (24 kilometres per hour). They also have remarkable endurance, capable of flying distances up to 5 miles (8 kilometres) in search of food.
Without Bees, Farming Would All But Stop & Our Ecosystem Would Fail.
Bees are crucial pollinators, responsible for pollinating approximately one-third of the food we eat. They contribute to the pollination of about 70 of the 100 crop species that feed 90% of the world.
Bees have an excellent memory and can remember landmarks and routes to flowers for several days. They can also learn and recognise human faces, a trait that aids them in navigating their environment.
Noticed and recorded by Aristotle, the hexagonal shape of honeycomb cells is an engineering marvel. This structure is not only strong and efficient but also uses the least amount of wax to hold the maximum amount of honey.
